This action by the coalition in New York helps education people about the field of nursing as well as what nurses look like. The picture on the article is a representation that nurses come from different backgrounds and vary in gender as well. This is a great way to reach out to the New York community near Syracuse and get people talking about the health issues and concerns we all face. Having such presence at a fair provides a relaxed environment where people can discuss issues relating to their health.

Such event would be absolutely beneficial in certain urban areas in New Jersey because it would bring an increase in self-health awareness. Such event would stir curiosity to the way certain lifestyles and diets affect our health as well as the health of our family members and unborn children. Getting children involved and asking parents to answer health related questions, not necessarily about their own personal health decisions, would stir the pot and ignite conversation of whether we are helping to destroy ourselves through our diet and lifestyle. The reluctance of filling out a survey about personal health lifestyle seems normal considering the guilt most people would probably feel. Perhaps a better approach would be to give scenarios of other individuals within the survey. The method would probably decrease reluctance to participate in the surveys while also increase awareness of some of the health issues we are dealing with.
The future of Nursing New York State action Coalition has been doing a wonderful job of Nursing Representation by showing different types of nurses who work in various disciplines and health specialties. This action provides a great benefit to the general public which consists on many individuals who many not know that a career in nursing is very diverse. Many citizens nay have the perception that nurses are supposed to be women. Others may have the perception that nurses only work in hospital settings. Many more may even have the perception that nursing is a profession where one takes orders from doctors. The NYSAC has done a great job informing the public that these perceptions are false. NYSAC lets the public know that nurses are leaders In their fields of specialty who advocate for their patients and are respected by other health care professions.

Events such as these would definitely be beneficial to certain communities that may not be aware of the nursing career opportunities or nursing educational opportunities that are available around them. Events like these open our eyes to the existence of certain nursing programs. The dual degree partnership in nursing program between St Joseph and Lemoyne College is a perfect example of some of the information that can be received from these events. This is a great event which exposes the people to the wonderful world of nursing while increase health awareness within our communities.

These nurses are directly interacting with people outside of the doctor’s office and forming strong, positive bonds with the public that go beyond the call of duty. By doing so, it allows the nurses to address the needs of the population while also keeping the rather unfavorable aspects of healthcare out of it. It also gives these nurses the chance to educate people. It is pertinent for nurses to provide education to the public so that they are able capable of understanding their own bodies and are aware of the best ways to protect their own health. At a fair that sells some deep-friend, greasy and sticky, sugary foods, temptations to make unhealthy decisions are at an all time high. This is probably one of the best times to approach people. It is a great opportunity to help people make mindful decisions of the foods they are consuming and the possible long-term consequences of poor nutrition. Nurses must see each moment as a teaching moment for people who are interested in learning.

For adults and children, even approaching the booth is a good sign. Right off the bat, it shows that they are interested in participating in something that may benefit themself and their community alike. For the children, they exude enthusiasm when they put their healthy ideas into drawings. This is a creative and an especially important tool since confident choices and actions are the key to thriving as they continuously grow and develop. If they are able to reflect on the time they visited the nurse’s booth at the fair, they can feel inspired to spread the word to their peers once they get home or go back to school. This creates a chain that encourages others to make good choices too.

For adults it’s a little different, but nonetheless, very useful. It offers them the possible motivation that they may have needed to change a certain aspect of the way they have been living, such as quitting smoking or losing weight. It gives them the chance to contemplate the choices they made and construct goals on how they’d like to improve on those choices with the support of the nurses at the booth.

The nurses who have volunteered their time at this event are impacting the state of New York more than they may have realized. They are collecting these surveys to analyze the desires and needs of the local community in order to help them where they may be lacking. Having the booth at this fair starts the conversation about health and nutrition. The conversation that begins at this booth can continue to help thousands of people each year. The nurse volunteers should be sure to continue this tradition for many years to come.
