Part of the discussion was regarding that with the trends of employment opportunities for nurses in the areas of palliative care and more specifically end of life care (the last 6 months of life requiring specialized palliative care) and the changes in demographics of the nation, it is a prudent move toward including such experiences and preparation as part of the undergraduate nursing education, as well as other areas of nursing education. With the small percentage of graduates who will graduate and work in the areas such as maternity and pediatrics, palliative care and end of life spans all developmental stages.
